WHO WE ARE &
Hood Liberation is the brainchild of 9 Black + brown community organizers and activists who came together during the 2020 uprisings. We advocate for the hood and hold spaces for healing to combat the oppression our people face.
Because oppression takes many forms, our liberation also has to.
We liberate ourselves by creating our own spaces for healing, empowerment, and celebration.
We empower ourselves and our people through knowledge and service to the community.
We serve the hood by investing in ourselves and each other.
We are committed to growing together, being for the hood by the hood.
We are Hood Liberation.
THE FOUR GUIDING PILLARS.
1. Restorative & Social Justice
Hood Liberation maintains a focus on community organizing, activism, finding solutions that fight systemic violence/oppression, and collaborating with other like minded organizations.
2. Holistic Healing & Health
We aim to address a systemic lack of health services in our community by emphasizing self and mental health care workshops/events, healing circles, promoting nutritional and diet programs/resources, spiritual practices, journaling, book groups, yoga, meditation, and offering holistic services such as herbal supplements, crystals, and reiki/energy healing.
3. Economics & Entrepreneurs
Supporting Black & brown owned business is crucial in keeping our money in our community. We value a strong sense of financial literacy, teaching financial skills, celebrating and supporting our local entrepreneurs and combating gentrification in our neighborhoods.
4. Arts & Culture
Hood Liberation supports and appreciates the creative expression of personal experiences and cultures. We aim to strengthen the arts and cultural expression in our community through open Mic events, fostering events history and roots, holding space for Black and Brown creatives, and building a collaborative network. as well
